The short answer

Start with the itinerary and travel style, rather than choosing by brand alone. G Adventures organizes trips into named collections; Intrepid uses Basic, Original, Comfort and Premium styles alongside its themes. Both offer small-group trips, but group limits, age rules, rooms and inclusions depend on the actual tour. Compare two trips for the same dates and room basis before deciding.

G Adventures and Intrepid both offer a large choice of guided adventures. The useful question is what a particular trip gives you: where it goes, how often you move, who can join and what you still need to budget for. This comparison uses their published information, rather than claiming firsthand experience with every range.

G Adventures' collection names tell you something about the kind of experience, but they are not an exact translation of Intrepid's styles. Treat a comparison such as Classic versus Original as a starting question. Check the hotels, shared facilities, overnight transport and included activities before treating two trips as equivalent.

Intrepid's four styles give a clear way to narrow the accommodation and inclusion level. Even then, a style label does not tell you how many early starts, long transfers or one-night stops a route contains. Those details live in the itinerary. Our pace and difficulty guide explains how to read them.

A concrete comparison: ten days in Vietnam

G Adventures' Classic Vietnam and Intrepid's Vietnam Express Southbound both travel from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in ten days. Both publish a maximum group size of 16. Their minimum ages differ: G lists 12+, with minors accompanied by an adult; Intrepid lists 15.

Those headline similarities make them a useful pair to inspect. They do not make them interchangeable. Look at the overnight train and boat arrangements, activities and meal lists. Our worked Vietnam comparison explains the differences and links to the current side-by-side records.

Sharing a room and having a room to yourself

If you travel alone, establish which arrangement the quote uses. A shared-room policy can make a trip economical without providing a private room. Ask whether a single supplement applies, which nights it covers and whether the room is actually available on your date.

Boat, train and some remote stays can have different room arrangements from the main hotels. Get those exceptions in writing for the exact trip; do not generalize from an operator-wide promise.

Compare the whole budget

Compare the departure month and room basis before looking at the difference in from-prices. Then add costs outside the tour: international flights, meals not listed, optional activities, tips, transfers and any room supplement. Internal flights in an itinerary are separate from the airfare needed to reach the tour.

We do not declare one operator cheaper from its cheapest catalog trip or from a single sale. Read how TripFinder compares tours for the price and evidence method.

Which should you choose?

Choose the G Adventures trip when its specific collection, route and room arrangements fit your priorities better. Choose the Intrepid trip when its style, inclusions and itinerary are a closer fit. If the options look similar, compare the transfer days, free time, overnight transport and actual departure quote. Those differences are more useful than a universal brand ranking.

Browse G Adventures trips or Intrepid trips, save two plausible options, and compare them on the same basis. An advisor can check the details that are missing or departure-specific.

Confirm before you book

These details change, or the operator does not publish them clearly. An advisor can confirm them for your exact departure.

  • The group maximum and minimum age for your exact trip.
  • Whether a private room is available on every night, and its total supplement.
  • The final price for the same month, departure date and room basis.
  • The current deposit, cancellation and final-payment terms.

Quick answers

Is G Adventures or Intrepid cheaper?

Neither is always cheaper. Compare matched routes, travel dates, accommodation and inclusions. A sale from-price for one departure is not a reliable comparison with another trip's regular price.

Are the group sizes the same?

Check each tour. The two ten-day Vietnam trips reviewed here both allow up to 16 travellers, but that is not a universal limit across either operator.

Does no single supplement mean a private room?

No. A shared-room option can avoid a supplement while still requiring a roommate. A private room is a different arrangement and can have an extra charge or exceptions on boat, train and other nights.
