Day 2Day 2: Morning cycle on the Via AppiaThis morning we swap footpaths for cobblestones as we explore the legendary Appian Way by bike – one of the oldest roads in Europe and a lasting symbol of ancient Rome’s engineering brilliance. Our ride follows a specially designed route through the Appian Way Regional Park, taking in ruins of Roman villas, quiet countryside, and stretches of original basalt paving. Along the way, you’ll pass historic landmarks and get a close-up look at Rome’s impressive aqueduct system, with several ancient aqueducts still standing proudly across the landscape. In the afternoon, we return to central Rome, where you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace – whether it’s visiting a favourite monument, relaxing in a piazza, or enjoying a gelato in the late afternoon sun. Dinner is not included tonight, giving you the chance to choose from Rome’s endless selection of trattorias, osterias and pizzerias – your guide will be happy to recommend a local favourite.

Day 3Day 3: Hike Mt Vesuvius and visit Pompeii (2hrs)After breakfast, we board a high-speed train to Naples (approx. 1.5 hours), then meet our driver for a private transfer to the slopes of Mt Vesuvius. From the trailhead, we set off on a scenic hike to the crater rim, where you'll take in sweeping views across the Bay of Naples and peer into the still-smoking volcanic caldera. It's a dramatic reminder of the eruption that buried Pompeii in 79 AD. After the walk, we visit a local winery for a well-earned lunch and wine tasting, sampling regional varietals grown in the mineral-rich volcanic soil. In the afternoon, we transfer to Pompeii for a 2-hour guided tour of this extraordinary archaeological site. Walking the preserved streets, you'll gain a deeper understanding of daily Roman life frozen in time by volcanic ash. Our day ends with a scenic drive up into the hills to Bomerano, a peaceful village perched high above the Amalfi Coast. After check-in, we’ll enjoy a group dinner featuring local flavours. Overnight: Bomerano Distance: 4km/2.5mi, Ascent/descent: +200m/656ft, -200m/656ft

Day 5Day 5: Walk from Amalfi through the Mulini Valley to Ravello (5hrs)This morning we take a local bus down to Amalfi, once a powerful maritime republic and home to the Amalfi Tables – the oldest maritime legal code in the world. From here, we begin our walk through the scenic Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills), a lush, shaded trail lined with waterfalls, lemon groves, and the ruins of old paper mills that once powered Amalfi’s historic paper industry. Our path leads us uphill to the elegant hilltop town of Ravello, perched high above the coastline with sweeping views of the Mediterranean. There’s time to explore this peaceful village at your own pace – perhaps visit the gardens of Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo, or simply enjoy a gelato in the piazza. On the return walk, we pass through the charming village of Atrani, often considered one of the most authentic and least touristy spots on the coast. From Amalfi, we transfer back to Bomerano in the late afternoon. Dinner tonight is at your leisure – with plenty of local restaurants and trattorias in the village to choose from. Overnight: Bomerano Ascent/descent: +350m/1155ft, -350m/1155ft
