Day 3Day 3: Explore Pompeii and HerculaneumTransfer by train to Pompeii (approx. 1hr) and explore this remarkable Roman city at your own pace. Often described as a ‘snapshot in time’, Pompeii offers an extraordinary glimpse into everyday Roman life, preserved beneath volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. It is well worth visiting nearby Herculaneum – just 20 minutes from Pompeii by train. Unlike Pompeii, which was blanketed in ash and stone, Herculaneum was buried under a deep layer of volcanic mud and pyroclastic material. This created an oxygen-free environment that preserved organic materials in astonishing detail – from wooden beams and furniture to food and scrolls. While smaller and more compact than Pompeii, Herculaneum’s seaside location and wealth of preserved artefacts make it a favourite among those seeking a quieter, yet no less impressive, archaeological experience. Later in the day, return by train to Sorrento to collect your luggage, before continuing via private transfer to Agerola, perched atop the Monti Lattari – the natural divide between the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast. Dinner and overnight in Agerola.

Day 4Day 4: Stunning 'Path of the Gods' walk…Today you’ll walk one of Italy’s most iconic trails – the “Path of the Gods”, an ancient terraced mule path that winds high above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Starting at Bomerano, you’ll follow the panoramic trail along limestone cliffs, passing through terraced vineyards, fragrant Mediterranean scrub, and timeless stone villages. As you descend gradually towards the coast, the trail offers sweeping views across the Amalfi coastline, with Capri often visible on the horizon. Just before reaching Positano, the path passes through the hilltop village of Montepertuso, where you’ll begin a long and steep descent of stone steps that zigzag down to the heart of this colourful fishing village. Arriving in Positano, take time to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, narrow laneways and beach promenade before continuing your journey along the coast. From Positano, board a scenic boat to Amalfi – a memorable way to admire the dramatic coastline from the water. Then return to Agerola by public bus (approx. 1hr), where a well-earned dinner and overnight stay await. Distance 9km/5.6mi, ascent +200m/656ft, descent -700m/2296ft
